It would seem that the choice to follow Christ is not unlike the choice to become married. Both involve lifetime commitments; both involve the practice of giving of oneself; both involve forgiveness. Both relationships involve the willingness to love in the absence of the perception of returned love from time to time. The psalmist prays that God will cleanse and Purge the grim and dirt. Create in me a clean heart. These are images of calling for God to do more than just a quick shine. Restore, uphold, and deliver.
